Rail on the rise

Container traffic on the China/Europe route using the transit services provided by United Transport and Logistics Company – a joint venture of Belarusian, Kazakh and Russian railways – rose 76% in July over the previous year, to 54,200teu.Transport of loaded containers from Europe grew by 80% to 15,000teu while loaded containers shipped from China doubled to 36,000teu. Total traffic on UTLC services for the first seven months of 2020 was 277,600teu, up 67% on the same period last year.

Factors in the increase include a new route via the Ozinki/Semiglavy Mar Border crossing point approved last month, which increased capacity by three more train pairs per day.
