Reminder: Two weeks to the end of deferred import decs

[ December 16, 2021   //   ]

Suffolk forwarder Darren Ryan is reminding businesses that the option to delay import customs declarations comes to an end on 1 January 2022. The Morrison Freight director strongly urges them to start putting in place procedures to ensure everything runs smoothly.

From the start of 2022, a full and final customs declaration must be made on arrival of all EU goods entering the UK. If customs declarations, including any duty and import VAT payments, are not complete upon arrival, goods won’t be let into the country.

It follows the end of Brexit transitional measures, whereby customs declarations could be submitted after 175 days. These were originally due to end on 30 June 2021, but the deadline was later extended to 31 December.

He urged any company that does not have an in-house customs team to get a customs broker to streamline the process.
