Rhenus is star of cinematic logistics

[ February 16, 2026   //   ]

Rhenus South Africa has carried out a complex, multi‑layered logistics operation to bring the first-ever ScreenX cinema to South Africa for the Nu Metro chain.

ScreenX is the world’s first multi-projection cinema technology, offering an immersive 270-degree panoramic viewing experience by extending the film onto the side auditorium walls.

The new theatre, at Durban’s Gateway Mall delivers not only a panoramic movie experience, but showcases Rhenus’ capability to manage highly sensitive, globally sourced equipment under tight timelines with flawless execution from origin to installation.

Almost  30 tonnes of fragile, high‑value technology was shipped from the US, China, Korea, Belgium and the Netherlands with Rhenus leading every phase of the operation: international air freight, customs clearance, warehouse staging, last‑mile delivery and on‑site coordination.

Everything was delivered within an eight‑week project window, despite ongoing mall construction and restricted site access.

The forwarder’sglobal and South African teams worked together to manage multi‑origin shipments arriving in the correct sequence for installation.

Customs clearance included NRCS regulatory compliance, Letters of Authority and permits for controlled items.

The operation required precise unpacking and staging at the Durban Rhenus warehouse to support each installation phase, expert on‑site supervision, managing delivery to a limited‑access 4th‑floor installation zone requiring specialised equipment.

The project required specialised handling of ScreenX systems, projectors, speakers, oversized fixtures and delicate components. Rhenus ensured complete protection of the equipment.
