Rhenus to retrofit Rhine barges

[ November 2, 2023   //   ]

The Rhenus Group is to re-equip two canal push boats operated by Deutsche Binnenreederei with lower-emission stage V engines. While construction of hydrogen-powered vessels is a long-term project, Rhenus is retrofitting older vessels with more environmentally-friendly technology in the short term with RSPSB146 and RSPSB153, built in the 1970s, the first to undergo this process. The old engines have been replaced with modern SCANIA and Caterpillar truck engines that are also certified for use on board inland waterway vessels. They operate with stage 5 exhaust gas treatment and ensure that particles are no longer able to make their way into the air.
