‘Russia behind An124 attempted attack’ says Berlin

German authorities said on 1 September that Russia agents were responsible for an attempted drone attack on Ukrainian-registered aircraft at Leipzig/Halle Airport on 4 August. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the attack followed a “well-established pattern of Russian hybrid operations in Europe”.

Leipzig/Halle has used by Ukraine’s Antonov Airlines exiled fleet of An124 planes since Russia’s invasion of the country in February 2022. It is also home to NATO’s Strategic Airlift International Solution (SALIS) for which An124 aircraft are on permanent standby.

A drone carry explosives was discovered near to one of the Antonov Airlines aircraft and defused.
