Shipping chiefs hail world’s largest alliance

CMA CGM chief hails world’s largest shipping alliance
CMA CGM, Cosco Shipping, Evergreen and OOCL have formally launched the third – ‘Day 3’ – version of their of Ocean Alliance Product, described as the world’s largest operational agreement between shipping companies.
From April this year the alliance, first unveiled in Spring 2017, will deploy around 330 container ships – 111 of which will be operated by CMA CGM – 38 services and• an estimated carrying capacity of around 3.8 million teu.
It will include a strengthened offer between Asia and Europe with the addition of a 7th service, two transatlantic services linking North Europe to the East Coast of the United States and the Gulf of Mexico and the largest service on the Transpacific trade with 19 routes.
Chairman and chief executive of the CMA CGM Group, Rodolphe Saadé, said: “This new agreement with our Asian partners will enable us to propose to our customers an unrivaled and competitive service offering. It is a milestone in our development strategy. It reinforces the CMA CGM Group in its key position within the industry.”
