Turkish-based Ekol Logistics’ multimodal arm – Alternative Transport – launched its sixth vessel the Meleq on 18 November in Flensburg, Germany.
The ship has a 280-trailer capacity and will join Alternative Transport’s five-strong fleet in February, 2017, on the Turkey to Italy route.
Ekol Logistics and Alternative Transport chairman Ahmet Musul said that with the introduction of the new vessel, “we will continue to open new routes and increase frequency in existing routes through new investments. Furthermore, we plan to complete construction and begin operations at the Yalova Ro-Ro Terminal in the beginning of 2017.”
Alternative Transport, which started operations in 2013, operates four days a week between the ports of Haydarpaşa (Istanbul, Turkey) and Trieste (Italy) and once a week between the ports of Alsancak (Izmir, Turkey) and Sète (France).
Parent company Ekol’s UK partner is Davies Turner.
