Skills for green energy

Harwich International Port and Colchester Institute,are setting up an Energy Skills Centre in the town. It will have an engineering focus and is designed to meet the current needs of employers in the area, particularly in the offshore Wind Energy Industry.

The two parties have signed a memorandum of understanding to refurbish and fit out premises at Hamilton House, Parkeston and the College hopes to begin the Further Education training programmes, in engineering and welding, from early 2012. There are also plans for over 200 learners to be trained in the Centre during the 2012/13 academic year across a range of programmes, including pre-apprenticeships. It will also consider designing employer-specific courses.
