Slow going at the US border

[ October 1, 2025   //   ]

US government functions have partially shut down after Congress failed to pass funding legislation, reports forwarder Woodland International. It says that Customs and Border protection (CBP) will continue frontline inspections and cargo processing, but some administrative and policy functions are paused. The Food and Drink Administration (FDA) will maintain emergency reviews and user fee–funded activities, but routine food inspections and some product clearances may face delays. Importers and exporters should expect slower clearance times for certain goods, particularly those regulated by the agencies.

The Airforwarders Association said it was deeply concerned about the impact of the shutdown on the nation’s air cargo system. With air traffic control operations under pressure and federal aviation staff affected, there is a real risk of delays, disruptions, and added costs across the supply chain. It urged policymakers to resolve this impasse quickly.
