Solent completes first phase of terminal upograde

[ April 27, 2023   //   ]

Solent Stevedores and ABP have completed phase 1 of a £17.5 million project in the port of Southampton.

It includes 5.5 acres of fibre reinforced concrete to extend seven-high container stacking space together with new empty container handlers and offices.

Once the project is complete, it will create an 18-acre facility offering empty container handling, storage, maintenance and repair on a single-site – a first for the port of Southampton, it says.

Phase Two of the investment is now underway and will include connecting a further 6.5 acres of space to the existing rail terminal and completion of rail track works in the final phase.

Head of commercial at ABP Southampton, Paul Reeves, said: “This project enables our customer to handle, store, and fix more containers on site at the port.
