Southampton welcomes another Big Sister

[ June 25, 2020   //   ]

Just days after DP World London Gateway welcomed the world’s biggest container ship, the HMM Algeciras, it was turn of brother port DP World Southampton to welcome its largest ever vessel, the HMM Oslo at 399.9m, 61.5m wide and with a capacity of 23,820teu.

Technically, the two are not in fact sister-ships; the capacities of the two variants are slightly different, at 23,964teu for the DSME ships (HMM Algeciras class), and 23,820 TEU for the Samsung ships (HMM Oslo class), giving the London port bragging rights, at least for now.

HMM Oslo is due to arrive in Southampton on Friday from China via Singapore and South Korea before returning via the north-west Continent to the Far East.

The HMM Algeciras, which called at DP World London Gateway a few days ago, just pips the HMM Oslo in the world’s biggest boxship stakes
