Speeding to Ireland

[ April 9, 2014   //   ]

The high-speed HSS Stena Explorer re-entered service on Stena Line’s Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead route on 9 April and will continue to operate throughout the summer until 9 September. The vessel, which completes the passage in 2 hours 20 minutes – compared with 3hr 15min for a conventional ferry on the Holyhead-Dublin route – and has capacity for up to 1,100 lane metres, including freight. She will operate one round trip each day with a 10:30 sailing from Holyhead and a 13:30 sailing from Dun Laoghaire.

Stena originally operated HSS craft year round, on the Holyhead-Dun Laoghaire, Stranraer-Belfast and Harwich-Hook of Holland routes but has cut back to a summer only service on the central Irish Sea route because of high fuel costs.
