Stena to boost North Sea space next January

[ September 28, 2017   //   ]

Stena Line has confirmed plans to increase capacity on its Rotterdam-Killingholme route in January 2018, following its earlier announcement that it intends to increase capacity on Rotterdam-Europoort to Harwich by replacing the current two RoRo vessels by two larger ships.

Stena Line will increase its total capacity from Europoort by about 20%.

A decision has been taken in principle to introduce a larger vessel on the Killingholme route to replace the current chartered ship, the Caroline Russ, when its contract expires in January 2018.

A new ship will be introduced alongside the Stena Scotia on Rotterdam – Harwich, although Stena says it is not currently in a position to disclose its name due to consultation with its current crew.

Stena Line North Sea trade director, Annika Hult, said: “We have seen a strong growth in the transport market to the UK over the past several years and we are currently trading at very high utilisation on both routes.  We also see a good development in freight volumes arriving to Europoort by train. We believe that the combination of rail and ro ro transportation will increase in the future and our vision is that Europoort will develop into a key rail freight connection point to and from the UK.”
