[ September 20, 2021   //   ]

Stena Line has signed an agreement with Frederikshavn Municipality and the port of Frederikshavn to set up the world’s first long-distance battery-electric ferry service by 2030. The two Stena Elektra ferries would operate on the approximately 100km Gothenburg-Frederikshavn route and would be ro-pax vessels of about 200 metres length, with a capacity of 3,000 lane meters and 1,000 passengers. Their 60-70 MWh batteries would be charged in port through a high voltage shore power cable during their one hour turnaround time.
