Svendborg Maersk containers spotted in Devon

[ February 24, 2014   //   ]

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) says that three containers swept overboard from the Svendborg Maersk in the Bay of Biscay on 14 February have appeared in UK waters, one of which has come ashore. The ship lost about 520 boxes but most were empty and are believed to have sunk about 75miles south west of Lands End in French waters. The Beer Coastguard Rescue Team, police and council officials, evidently anxious to avoid a repetition of the scenes that followed the beaching of the MSC Napoli in Lyme Bay in January 2007, quickly cordoned off the beached container.
