That’s a cracker! Deugro delivers equipment to tight schedule

[ January 13, 2025   //   ]

Heavylift freight forwarder Deugro has delivered ten storage bullets and other equipment from China to Antwerp to help built Europe’s most sustainable ethane cracker.

The forwarder’s China and Chartering arms, with local support from Deugro Antwerp—loaded the 6,890-tonne cargo onto the DP2 heavy lift crane vessel Jumbo Fairplayer and the K3000-class heavy lift vessel Jumbo Fairmaster.

One challenge was to secure sufficient space on suitable heavy lift vessels with the right lifting capacities and within the tight six-week as tonnage is often booked for long periods in advance. However, “thanks to our many years of experience and long-standing strategic carrier relationships, we were able to secure the required vessel space within just two weeks,” said Deugro head of global chartering, Kai von Taube.

The Jumbo Fairmaster faced heavy congestion at Gangxin Port, meaning that it would have had to lie at anchor for almost a month before berthing. However, in cooperation with the carrier, Deugro was able to arrange an optimized loading by providing additional lashing and welding crews to convince the terminal to allow earlier berthing and helping to avoid detention costs.

Loading and load-securing operations were executed in about five days for each vessel and, after 12,958 nautical miles and 53 days, each punctually arrived at the Port of Antwerp for unloading under the supervision of Deugro UK’s teams and the client’s marine warranty surveyor.
