Three Pubs Challenge – third time lucky
[ August 4, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]FBJ editor Chris Lewis’s third go at the Three Pubs Challenge ended in triumph on Saturday 9 August completing the circuit of pubs in Sussex, Kent and Greater London with no punctures.
They were the Catts Inn, Rotherfield, the Queen’s Arms (aka Elsie’s) at Cowden Pound and, finally, the Jolly Farmers in Purley. The toughest stage of the ride was between East Grinstead and Rotherfield, before the well-known hill-flattening properties of Harvey’s Best and Larkins Bitter could come into play.
He said afterwards: “I’m delighted, relieved and surprised to have completed the challenge in a record time of…quite a few hours.
“But above all, I was completely blown away by the generosity of all those who sponsored and encouraged me. That is to say, Tony Farrell, Nicholas Sack, Gary Burrows (FBJ North America editor), Mike Bryant (FBJ IT editor), Spreng Thomson, C Morris, Damian at Air Cargo News, Portcare, Jamie Roche, the Bloke in the Catts Inn and The Other Bloke in the Catts Inn. Plus FBJ correspondent James Graham for organising a one-man welcoming party at the Jolly Farmers.”
The causes he is helping remain:

The ride was also be an opportunity to support local pubs which are still the lifeblood of our communities.
