TIACA white paper explores e-commerce impact
[ August 22, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) released its first-ever white paper dedicated entirely to e-commerce on 21 August.
‘E-Commerce: Opportunities & Challenges’ states that, by the close of 2024, the sector accounted for some 20% of global air cargo volumes, with forecasts predicting that this could double within the next decade. This along with COVID-driven shifts in consumer behavior, has reshaped supply chains, created new business models, and revealed gaps in regulation, standardization, and infrastructure.
Developed by TIACA’s multi-sector E-Commerce Task Force – comprising airlines, airports, ground handlers, technology providers, freight forwarders, and industry analysts – the white paper examines the sector’s most pressing challenges and opportunities, from safety and customs management to harmonized data standards, sustainability, and innovation.
Topics covered in the 16-chapter report include Safety & Security such as lithium battery risks and cyber threats, Customs & Border Management, Process Simplification & Data Harmonization, Airline, Handler & Forwarder Challenges, Final-Mile & Reverse Logistics andInnovation & Sustainability such as AI, drones, and green technologies.
The full report is available to all industry stakeholders, and TIACA is inviting feedback to help shape ongoing work in this critical area.
