Tonnage up on the Thames

[ April 2, 2013   //   ]

Tonnage on the tidal river Thames increased by more than a million tonnes in 2012, says the Port of London Authority. The 3.3 million tonnes of materials included vegetable oil, sand, gravel, tunnelling spoil and household waste. Construction of Thames Water’s Lea Tunnel project was also a major factor in this growth. Traffic is set to increase still further with the the Crossrail’s rail tunnel project due to start in earnest.
