Trade unionists slam DP World freeport role

[ March 27, 2023   //   ]

The Trades Union Congress has criticised the decision to appoint Dubai-based port operator DP World as one of the operators of the Thames Freeport, pointing out that it is the parent company of P&O Ferries. The ferry operator was widely condemned after it sacked 800 of its workers without consultation last year.

TUC general secretary Paul Nowak has repeated a call for the company to be stripped of all its public contracts.

Thames Freeport, A partnership between Ford, Forth Ports Limited and DP World, got final clearance last week to start full operations and constitute its board, after getting Government approval of its final business case.
