[ January 17, 2014   //   ]

DB Schenker Rail (UK) has introduced an additional freight services along the High Speed 1 line from the Channel Tunnel to London, from Valencia in Spain. It will carry refrigerated containers of perishable foodstuffs and automotive components from to Barking, East London. DB Schenker Rail has signed an initial six-monrth track access contract with HS1 but is optimistic that the service will continue.

As with the existing service from Poland, use of the Continental-gauge high-speed route will allow high-capacity wagons to be used.
An spokeswoman said: “Due to size dimensions of the freight, it is something that can only be carried in the UK on the high speed network, offering the shipper a seamless European rail service.
Head of sales for DB Schenker Rail (UK), Neil McDonald, added: “The additional services from Spain will add to an already successful operation of twice weekly return services to/from Poland.”
