Trains gain ground in Hamburg

[ August 12, 2021   //   ]

HHLA said its inland container transport increased by 16.0% to 832,000teu in the first half of 2021 compared with 718,000teu in the previous year. It was primarily rail transport that continued to benefit from the recovery in freight volumes beginning in the second half of 2020, rising by 19.3% year-on-year to 678,000teu. Road transport increased only moderately by 3.4% to 155,000teu.

Port container throughput increased slightly by 0.7% compared with the same period last year.

The Group operating result (EBIT) increased by 63.2% year-on-year to € 90.5 million, partly due to high storage fees as a result of continued shipping delays at the Port of Hamburg as well as the strong increase in container transport volumes.
