Union stages protest over Brexit driver’s hours plans

[ September 24, 2019   //   ]

Truck driver members of the Unite union staged a protest at the Department of Transport on 17 September over reports that the government will relax or suspend the drivers’ hours rules in the event of a no deal Brexit.

It says that the government has not denied that it will suspend the driving regulations in order to try to keep goods moving which, Unite says, “would be profoundly dangerous” for road users. It says that a survey of its members released last month found tat most were already suffering from exhaustion due to long hours.

Unite adds that despite the government apparently upping its no deal planning it still has not been contacted about how drivers will be supported during a no deal Brexit.
