UPS ready for the Paralympics

[ June 13, 2012   //   ]

UPS has revealed its plans for the delivery of London 2012 team kit to Paralympic athletes across the UK, involving the warehousing, packing and delivery of more than 27,000 items to over 300 athletes.

The first step in the process will involve UPS warehousing all of the kit, so it can be quickly and easily picked and packed for each individual athlete, depending on their size and individual requirements. All items will then be scanned, in order to ensure maximum stock control, before being packed into kit bags ready for delivery.

UPS is delivering the kit well in advance of the Paralympic Games so the athletes have time to wear them and ensure they are the correct size. A UPS Swap Van will be travelling around the country in the weeks following the main delivery carrying additional stock in order to cater to any last-minute exchanges.

Over the course of the entire Games UPS will be responsible for the delivery of approximately 30 million items, including 1 million pieces of sporting equipment, in the most significant peacetime logistical undertaking in the world.
