Van tacho deadline looms

Logistics UK is reminding operators that light commercial vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of over 2.5 tonnes will need smart tachograph 2 (ST2) devices for international hire and reward journeys from 1 July. The new rule includes operators in Northern Ireland crossing the border with the Republic of Ireland. ST2 devices have been compulsory for international heavy goods vehicles of over 3.5t since 19 August 2025. ST2 technology is more accurate and tamperproof, says Logistics UK, which warns that there could be long waiting times to get devices fitted and drivers may also need training in use of the equipment.
