VTG tests high tech safety system for piggyback trailers

[ June 3, 2021   //   ]

Rail wagon leasing company VTG is pilot testing Nexxiot’s Kingpin Monitor to check the security of piggyback road semi-trailers on pocket wagons. Crane drivers and ground staff are well versed in handling trailers but when visibility is poor, they often have to carry out the inspection by torchlight and rely on an acoustic signal that the pin emits when it is correctly inserted into the support frame. The sensor provides more certainty, because an LED light signals that the pin is correctly positioned and a second LED indicates that the locking latch is engaged. The maintenance-free sensor is being tested on 70 double pocket wagons under some of the harshest conditions and for highly sensitive and demanding cargo requirements, it says.
