Wallenius suspends Argentina call

[ May 21, 2012   //   ]

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics said on 21 May that it had suspended service to Argentina due to severe congestion at the port of  . The situation there had increasingly worsened in the past several weeks as there have been extended pauses in vehicle processing during government holidays as well as Customs’ prohibition of vehicle imports while it examines tax policies related to automotive imports. At the moment, vehicle processing is at a standstill. Brazil is also affected, as most ports are overflowing with export units bound for Argentina and are imposing restrictions on advance delivery of export cargo bound for Argentina as well as other destinations.

In late March, members of the World Trade Organisation’s Council for Trade in goods complained that new import licensing rules introduced by Argentina are causing long delays and increasing costs following an extension of the list of products subject to non-automated licensing.
