Welsh pub crawl sparks huge rescue effort

[ March 21, 2019   //   ]

Three Russian sailors sparked a mass scramble by local lifeboat crews and a coastguard helicopter in the early hours of 21 March after their inflatable boat was reported missing on the way back from an onshore drinking trip.

According to the BBC, they had left the Alana Evita coaster, anchored two miles off the Somerset coast, to sample the nightlife in Barry, South Wales, on Wednesday.

Rescuers eventually found them stranded on Flat Holm island, four miles off the Welsh coast.

Somehow, the trio managed to extend their trip to the small Welsh resort for several hours, not beginning their trip home until 03:45. It’s not yet clear what they found there to occupy them for so long.
