[ February 4, 2022   //   ]

French industrial company Verkor has chosen  the Port of Dunkirk as the site for its first Gigafactory dedicated to the development of low-carbon automotive battery cells. Production capacity will increase from 16 GWh in 2025 to 50 GWh in 2030.

The first batteries are scheduled to be delivered July 2025 to customers including Renault Group, which signed a strategic partnership with Verkor last summer.

Covering an area of more than 150 hectares, the factory will be located in the ZGI zone (Zone Grandes Industries) of Dunkirk-Port, approved as a “Choose France turnkey site” in January 2020, following a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron.
