Brisk business for Tunnel drop trailers

[ June 29, 2022   //   ]

Channel Tunnel operator Getlink says that its unaccompanied freight service, launched in September 2021, has seen “a marked acceleration since March 2022”, with more than 1000 trailers carried. Trailers are placed on the shuttle trains by a contracted operator whose tractor units accompany the trailers on the train journey and then haul them to Ashford for pick-up by the customer’s tractor. Getlink freight commercial director Christian Dufermontstated: “Our service is growing strongly because it answers the three principal challenges in the supply chain today: decarbonisation, lack of truck drivers and the sharp rise in the cost of fuel.”
