Gothenburg’s big ship scheme on schedule

[ June 3, 2021   //   ]

The Port of Gothenburg says its Skandia Gateway project to accommodate the world’s largest containerships is going to plan. The scheme involves deepening 6km of fairway to 17.5 metres with construction scheduled to begin during the first quarter of 2022. At Skandiahamnen, the existing terminal and 1.2 kilometres of quays will be reinforced to allow two ocean-going vessels to load and discharge at the same time. The permit application was submitted to the Land and Environment Court just before Christmas last year, and during the spring additional documentation will be provided as necessary. The first phase is scheduled for completion in 2026.
