IRU contests Tirol truck ban

[ June 23, 2016   //   ]

The International Road Transport Union has submitted a formal complaint to the European Commission over the Tirol region of Austria’s proposed plan to ban trucks over 7.5 tonnes on a section of the A12 in the Inn valley due to enter into force on 1 November. Tirol has attempted twice in the past to introduce such a ban, but the European Court of Justicehas ruled that it would not comply with EU law. Tirol is going ahead with the current ban a reasoned opinion from the European Commission, issued in March 2016, which states that the measure fails to comply with the principle of proportionality.
