Lords to probe post-Brexit transport

[ July 26, 2018   //   ]

The House of Lords EU Internal Market Sub-Committee has launched an inquiry into future UK-EU arrangements for road, rail and maritime transport. It will explore potential UK-EU agreements for all surface transport, cases for divergence from EU transport rules, the implications of ‘no deal’ for the UK transport sector, the UK’s involvement with EU transport infrastructure projects and the preparedness of the Department for Transport and UK transport agencies and bodies

Chair of the Committee, Lord Whitty, said:  “The House of Lords EU Internal Market Committee wants to explore the opportunities, as well as the potential challenges, that Brexit poses to UK transport networks. Customs arrangements have understandably dominated this area of debate, we hope that this inquiry will highlight the wider issues and help to inform Government and public thinking.

“The Committee welcomes submissions to the inquiry, and urges organisations, businesses and individuals to take part in the inquiry.”

Deadline for written submissions is 14 September. The Committee will hold oral evidence sessions for the inquiry between September and November.
