Russia steps up Lithuania checks

[ September 17, 2013   //   ]

Lithuania has joined Ukraine in complaining that Russia has imposed new border checks and has called on the EU to take action, according to euobserver.com. Foreign minister, Linas Linkevicius said that the Russian authorities had stepped up checks, sample taking and other procedures for all the goods coming from from Lithuania and it appeared that the country was being singled out from the rest of the EU for special attention. Queses of trucks at the Lithuanian-Russian border could now take up to a week to clear.

The move is independent of Russia’s threats to withdraw from the TIR system.
