Samskip streamlines logistics

[ May 29, 2015   //   ]

Short-sea shipping operator Samskip has formally launched its Logistics arm, the latest state in a streamlining operation that started in May last year.
Samskip Logistics brings all of Samskip’s dry and reefer forwarding activities into a single business unit, including Samskip Icepak Logistics and forwarding services previously operated through country organisations branded under Samskip. Cold storage and terminal business FrigoCare has also been brought under Samskip Logistics management, but maintains separate branding. Samskip’s participation in Silver Sea and Silver Green has also been placed under the management of Samskip Logistics. Silver Green is a joint venture set up in 2010 by Samskip and Green Reefers with Silver Sea as a holding company. Silver Green operates a fleet of 15 reefer vessels, mainly trading the North Atlantic to Baltic / North Sea region, transporting mainly frozen fish.
Samskip Logistics chief executive, Ásbjörn Gíslason, said: “We have successfully integrated the Samskip forwarding business and Samskip Icepak Logistics into one strong, coherent Samskip Logistics unit, creating a robust organisation with offices and agents in 30 countries across five continents. We see these changes as a prelude announcing our intention to grow the global logistics solutions offered by Samskip further, both through organic growth and via strategic acquisitions. We look forward to developing our services as opportunities for growth present themselves.”
