Samskip’s SeaShuttles to join HyShip project
[ July 15, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]Samskip is to bring its SeaShuttle project into the European HyShip initiative, to help accelerate development of liquid hydrogen infrastructure and zero-emission shipping.
Samskip has two hydrogen-powered SeaShuttle vessels currently under construction for its Rotterdam/Oslo route. It will work with a consortium of leading European maritime, energy, research and regulatory partners working to develop technology, infrastructure and operational standards needed to scale hydrogen-powered shipping across Europe.
The shortsea firm says that, unlike many demonstration projects, the Samskip SeaShuttles have always been designed with commercial operation in mind and, from 2027, will transport containers powered by liquid hydrogen and creating one of Europe’s first green shipping corridors. Each vessel is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 25,000 tonnes annually when operating in zero-emission mode.
