Shippers unconvinced by Brussels rail plan

[ March 4, 2013   //   ]

The European Shippers’ Council says it is not convinced by the proposed pace of regulatory change in European rail freight in the European Commission’s proposed Fourth Railway Package, In particular, it is concerned that the still-inadequate rail transport services that make European business less competitive and their logistic processes inflexible.

It calls for adequate financing of the Trans-European Transport Network to alleviate bottlenecks. In addition, it says, most shippers are fully dependent on single-wagon load services and these services are still expensive, slow and unreliable and should be one of the European Union’s priorities to prevent a damaging shift from rail to road.
