[ March 18, 2014   //   ]

The Global Shippers’ Forum called for a full investigation of the proposed P3 shipping alliance’s impact on price and service of the at its third annual meeting in Los Angeles on 18 March.

UK-headquartered GSF is urging US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) and the European Commission to take steps to ensure that the P3 Global Alliance cannot restrict competition, reduce choice or influence rates resulting from its potential dominate position.

The P3 plans to bring together three of the largest remaining independent container shipping operators – Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM – into a single, globe-spanning consortium.

Addressing the GSF meeting FMC Commissioner William Doyle said that the issues and questions raised by the GSF had been helpful in evaluating the P3. The results of the FMC’s investigations into the P3 are expected on 24 March, the end of the current 45 day review period.
