Study upholds Move to -15°C findings
[ September 29, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]A study by Nomad Foods, Europe’s largest frozen food business, has been published in Nature’s npj Science of Food journal that challenges accepted industry standards by demonstrating that product can be safely stored at -15°C rather than -18°C.
It says that the findings show that a 3-degree shift maintains quality and safety while cutting energy consumption by around 7%.
The research evaluated nine frozen food categories and generated more than 20,000 quality measurements.
Nomad Foods became the first food manufacturer to join The Move to -15°C coalition – a global initiative dedicated to cutting carbon emissions in the frozen food supply chain.
