Tappin gets 33 months

[ January 10, 2013   //   ]

Retired British freight forwarder Christopher Tappin was sentenced to 33 months in prison by a court in El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday 9 January. The 65-year-old had pleaded guilty in November to attempting to illegally sell missile parts to Iran in what transpired to be a US Customs ‘sting’ operation. While US prosecutors said they had no objection to him serving his sentence in the UK, he must first enter a US prison and wait several months before learning if he can serve the rest of his sentence in the UK. Tappin was also fined $11,357 (£7,044).
