Traffic down at Dunkerque, but boxes and ro ro up

[ January 15, 2021   //   ]

Traffic at Dunkerque dropped sharply in 2020, falling 14% to 45.2 million tonnes, but there were rises for cross-Channel freight (607,000 units, + 4%) and containers (463,000teu TEU, + 2%) said the port authority in its annual figures. Other traffic was affected by the Covid outbreak and a drastic drop in production at the Dunkerque steel plant. Cumulative growth in containers over the past 10 years has now reached 130%.

This year will see the start of the first operations of the 2020-2024 Strategic Project including extension of the Dry-Port intermodal scheme and replacement of the RoRo 1 linkspan with a new RoRo 6 linkspan which will make it possible to berth a greater number of large ships.
