Trucks set to move faster

[ November 12, 2012   //   ]

Roads Minister Stephen Hammond announced plans to increase the speed limit for trucks over 7.5 tonnes on single carriageway to 45 or 50mph. The current limit is 40mph. The existing 50mph limit for trucks between 3.5t and 7.5t will not be changed.

The Freight Transport Association welcomed the move, saying that it would reduce accidents because there would be less temptation for car drivers to overtake slow-moving trucks.

The Department for Transport’s own research shows that the 40mph is widely ignored.
