Peel Ports’ short-sea shipping arm BG Freight Line is to introduce four ‘Irelandmax’ container vessels onto its Irish Sea routes in 2018. The 13,250-tonne, 153m long ships, with a nominal capacity of 1004teu will be able to carry 488 45ft boxes in all positions. Odd-sized containers can also be stowed securely due to a new proprietary cargo stowage system. They will also have 253 reefer plugs.
