Irish stalwart honoured

[ January 3, 2014   //   ]

Freight industry doyen Gerry Tyrrell was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the Irish Air Cargo Institute Christmas Lunch in Dublin on 12 December. Gerry Tyrrell (pictured here with Primeline Express boss Steve Bell) was operations director at Irish Express Cargo and, together with fellow-founder the late Finn O’Sullivan, spearheaded the company to become a global force in freight forwarding. It was one of the first companies to offer bespoke turnkey solutions to the nascent high-tech industry in Ireland. A measure of its success was that the company – which had by then expanded far beyond its native shores – was eventually bought by major manufacturer Flexitronics to become an integral part of its operations.
