[ July 16, 2018   //   ]

Shipping minister Nusrat Ghani christened Hapag-Lloyd’s latest 15,000teu ship the Afif at a ceremony at DP World London Gateway on 16 July. Hapag’s chief operating officer Anthony Firmin said it was the first time in 20 years that the German line has named one of its vessels in Great Britain. Afif is more than three times the size of London Express, named in Southampton in 1998.

The new ship is 385.5m long and liquid nitrogen gas-ready, offering the potential for significant reductions in emissions.
